- ➤ Spokane City announced that on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, October 13, on-street parking meters and kiosks will be free—though parking rules still apply. City offices will operate normally and curbside services will continue while the City Council meeting is canceled and will resume October 20. City of Spokane
- ➤ Spokane is preparing to allow co-living spaces citywide to meet a state law that takes effect by December. City planners are removing old restrictions and will meet on October 8 to refine ordinance language—community members can share their comments at the meeting. KHQ
- ➤ Spokane City Council District 2 members will host a Coffee with Council event on October 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Tay Tay’s Café on 507 S. Howard Street in the Cliff-Cannon neighborhood. The event gives residents a chance to meet Council Members Paul Dillon and Shelby Lambdin—who represent the southern part of Spokane—and discuss local issues. City of Spokane
- ➤ Julie O'Berg, Spokane's first female fire chief, retired at a city council meeting. Mayor Lisa Brown had persuaded her to extend her service for an extra year, and she spent 28 years with Overland Park Fire Department. KHQ
- ➤ City leaders announced at Monday’s public safety meeting plans for the H.O.M.E. Starts Here initiative and will hold a press conference today to explain strategies that include launching a daytime navigation center and a coordinated street outreach team. - ➤ Two new candidates are running for a seat on Deer Park City Council ahead of the Nov. 4 election as ballots will be mailed between Oct. 15 and 17 with votes due by Oct. 27. David Aufdencamp wants sustainable growth, more public safety and better parks while Tony Bailey favors strong capital planning, business growth and a plan for a police force run by the city — issues the voters will consider closely.
