- ➤ A new community-inspired mural was completed in Sunset Park in Airway Heights this week—Cheney School District art classes and the Park and Recreation Department worked together when art teacher Rebeca Dempsy organized students to design and paint Mira Perret’s chosen artwork over three days. - ➤ Residents from Spokane's 29 neighborhood councils gathered at Gonzaga's Hemmingson Center for a neighborhood summit that aimed to strengthen ties between residents and city departments. A wind advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. this evening to 9 a.m. Sunday as gusty showers and winds may knock down tree limbs and move unsecured items, and residents are urged to take caution. KHQ
- ➤ A new food bank and soup kitchen opened on Saturday in Spokane Valley to help families face food insecurity during the government shutdown. The Filipino American Northwest Association runs the service—volunteers serve meals every other Saturday as food benefits may be cut next month. KXLY
- ➤ Glow Children Early Learning Center in downtown Spokane submitted a permit to nearly double its space at 720 W. Riverside Ave.—the $150,000 remodel, expected to finish by year's end, will better serve school-age children and working families. Davenport Grand Hotel’s Table 13 restaurant and Orchard Christian Fellowship’s storefront at 1219 N.
