- ➤ Spokane Valley will open its first soup kitchen at 205 N. University Rd. Suite 3 this weekend with a Thanksgiving dinner on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. Jacqueline Babol of the Filipino American Northwest Association said the kitchen will serve at least 130 people and will offer a Christmas meal on Dec. 20 and hot meals every second and fourth Saturday starting Jan. 26. Ryan Smith addressed 308 people Tuesday morning at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena and explained that a veteran is someone who acts outside of themselves by helping others—an idea he shared to honor military service.
