FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Spokane saw two key buildings demolished in 1979 to clear the way for what became the city’s tallest skyscraper—now known as SeaFirst Financial Center—which opened in 1981 with 160,000 square feet of office space. The site has a deep financial history from a three-story brick structure before the 1889 fire to major bank mergers that reshaped the local business district. The Spokesman-Review

- ➤ Eight volunteer pilots keep Spokane County safe by flying with the sheriff’s office to help in search and rescue and aid officers in tough spots—Steve Robertson, one of the pilots, said he loves giving back after a long career in law enforcement. Spokane County

- ➤ Gonzaga’s women’s basketball team lost to Stanford 65-52 at McCarthey Athletic Center before 5,584 fans, with 20 turnovers leading to 23 points for Stanford. Coach Lisa Fortier said fatigue and poor defense hurt the team — Gonzaga will now prepare for its upcoming road game against South Dakota State. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Washington State’s Cougars won 28-3 over Louisiana Tech Saturday and need one win in two games to secure a bowl berth.
