COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from Neighbors Feeding Neighbors served Thanksgiving dinner to Spokane Valley residents—distributing nearly 50 smoked turkeys and over 400 pre-cooked meals on Sunday afternoon.  KHQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Frontier Airlines announced new nonstop flights from Spokane to Phoenix Sky Harbor — the service will operate twice a week with fares starting at $29 and is expected to offer an affordable holiday travel option. Travelers should note that flight times and frequency may change.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials warn that increased Thanksgiving travel will lead to more congestion on Spokane roads and in airports, and they urge travelers to prepare by checking vehicle maintenance and arriving early. AAA Washington and state transportation representatives expect delays downtown, on North Division, and near Gonzaga University — so planning alternate routes and safety kits is advised.  The Spokesman-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials say frequent marijuana use may cause cannabis hyperemesis syndrome—an illness that leads to intense vomiting and severe abdominal pain which often drives users to the emergency room. Researchers and local experts note that symptoms can appear years after chronic use—efforts continue to identify the trigger and guide proper treatment.  The Spokesman-Review

SPORTS NEWS

  • After losing 24-20 to JMU, Washington State coach Jimmy Rogers said his team must learn to finish games, a key step for bowl eligibility as they prepare for the regular-season finale against Oregon State.  The Spokesman-Review
  • No. 13 Gonzaga will face No. 11 Alabama today at 6:30 p.m. at MGM Grand Garden Arena as part of the Players Era Festival. The fast-paced game (a race to 90 or 100 points) will test both teams’ high-tempo offense and strong defense as they seek to secure a key win in the tournament.  The Spokesman-Review
  • WSU lost 24-20 to 21st-ranked James Madison last week. The Cougars must win Saturday's finale at Gesa Field against Oregon State— a win that would secure a bowl game spot and a claim to the Pac-12 title.  The Spokesman-Review
  • On Sunday, the Gonzaga women’s basketball team beat Eastern Washington 79-60 in a nonconference game — overcoming over 20 turnovers and led by Boise State transfer Teryn Gardner’s key three-pointers. The Bulldogs, coming off two losses, now head to the Coconut Hoops Tournament in Florida and will face Indiana on Friday.  The Spokesman-Review
