COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hutton Settlement Christmas Tree Farm fundraiser returns as local organizers plan to host the event to raise funds for community programs—residents can enjoy festive activities and support local causes.  KXLY
  • Kendall Yards is hosting its first Night Market Winter Festival from Nov. 28 through Dec. 20 to bring holiday magic to local residents. The event features a Christmas Market from noon to 4 p.m. with local vendors in a heated tent, Santa’s Grotto at The Welcome Center, reindeer visits, festive music, and Saturday fireworks at 7 p.m.—a celebration of the season.  KHQ
  • The Humane Evacuation Animal Rescue Team, an all-volunteer nonprofit, rescues animals and manages emergency shelters in Spokane. It now cares for two horses, Debbie and Angel, as it supports animal welfare when pet owners can no longer provide care.  KHQ
  • Neighbors Feeding Neighbors received a new trailer when Action Recycling bought one Friday morning in Airway Heights after its trailer was stolen and offered secure storage to help prevent a repeat—this support lets the nonprofit continue serving hot meals and supplies during the holiday season.  KHQ
  • Winter markets are starting to boost the holiday season in the Inland Northwest with Kendall Yards’ Night Market Winter Festival running from November 28th to December 20th and Scale House Market hosting events today and tomorrow with live music and holiday activities—Spokane Valley’s market will occur on December 13th while Post Falls will host a winterfest on December 5th with tree lighting and a Santa’s workshop.  KXLY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Mt. Spokane High School student injured in a car crash on November 22 is making progress in the hospital—he now communicates using hand gestures and recently put on his own socks, according to his father.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Shoppers lined up before dawn Friday at Spokane stores for Black Friday deals that brought back early-2000s shopping nostalgia, with Target giving swag bags to its first 100 customers and Kohl’s offering cash giveaways to early arrivals. Some customers began waiting as early as 11 p.m. Thursday, and stores like the General Store also ran online sales and in-store deals through Monday.  The Spokesman-Review

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local record stores held Black Friday deals yesterday as part of a nationwide Record Store Day celebration & fans lined up outside 4000 Holes for scavenger hunts and vinyl giveaways. Resurrection Records offered Wicked-themed turntables & added extra excitement with its special promotions.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, the Gonzaga women’s basketball team lost 76-72 to the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers in the Coconut Hoops Classic after the Hoosiers built an 11-point lead in the second half. Coach Lisa Fortier said officials made questionable calls and the team will face Marquette on Sunday at 8 a.m. Pacific.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Chairlifts at five ski resorts will remain stationary this week as light snow delays planned openings. Silver Mountain and Schweitzer postponed their openings from last Friday and Mt. Spokane will now aim for a Dec. 13 start — managers at Lookout Pass, 49 Degrees North and Mission Ridge are watching the weather for a new date.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Princeton transfer Caden Pierce (a former Ivy League Conference Player of the Year and high school teammate of Braden Huff) will take an official visit to Gonzaga before choosing where to continue his college basketball career. He already visited Grand Canyon and will visit UConn, Duke and Louisville in upcoming trips.  The Spokesman-Review
