COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ More state resources are joining Spokane and Spokane Valley swiftwater rescue teams to help amid historic flooding. Responders previously conducted multiple rescues under the State Mobe Act and will stay on standby as heavy rains, wind, and rising floodwaters continue today (teams include personnel from multiple agencies). - ➤ Looff Carrousel will host a magical holiday storytime on Friday at 11 a.m. for children (ages 2-5) featuring seasonal storytelling, preschool activities, a $1 carousel ride and a Santa visit at River Park Square. KXLY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A High Wind Warning is in effect from 10 PM Tuesday to 4 PM PST Wednesday for areas including Downtown Spokane, with damaging winds and potential power outages; residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid windows to protect against falling debris. KHQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A water main break near the intersection of West 8th Avenue and South Washington Street is causing traffic delays and prompting a street closure north of the Glover Mansion. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes as no reopening time has been provided. KXLY
- ➤ VA leaders told lawmakers Monday that the electronic health record system, first used at Spokane’s VA hospital five years ago, is set to expand in 2026 to 13 hospitals and many clinics—though some lawmakers remain cautious about past errors. The Spokesman-Review
