The joint rescue team from Spokane Valley Fire Department and City of Spokane Fire Department returned home today after spending eight days in Skagit County aiding during historic flooding — officials praised their professionalism.

In 1975, the City Plan Commission predicted downtown would thrive as families moved in after an energy crisis (focusing on pedestrians and shoppers over cars).

The commission estimated population growth to between 194,000 and 218,000 (by the turn of the century).

The Spokane County Swiftwater Rescue Team returned to their base after its recent emergency response.

The team stands ready to assist with any future swiftwater incidents in the area.

Spokane Zephyr earned its first win since early October with a 3 to 1 victory over Fort Lauderdale United on Saturday at Beyond Bancard Field in Davie, Florida.

The team ended a streak of four losses and one draw as coach Nicole Lukic praised their relentless effort.

Saturday's high school basketball games saw Deer Park girls win 74-30 over Toppenish as Jacey Boesel scored 34 points and Mead boys beat Auburn Riverside 76-54 with Karson Maze scoring 25.

Several other schools also competed in a busy slate of contests.
