- ➤ A memorial to honor over 200 individuals who died while homeless is planned in Spokane. Officials say more details (date, time, and venue) will be announced soon. KXLY
- ➤ The Christmas Bureau is raising funds to provide toys, books and grocery vouchers for nearly 9,636 families at the County Fair and Expo Center this December — local donors may mail checks or donate online until Dec. 29 to help meet the $600,000 goal amid rising prices. The Spokesman-Review
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Public Works reported a 75 percent rise in seniors and disabled receiving utility credits after mailing postcards to eligible property owners; customers now get $15 off their bill this year and $20 next year, divided among services (water, sewer and waste) with prorated amounts if fewer apply. - ➤ Spokane City will have holiday closures with City Hall closing on Dec. 24 and 31 and libraries closed on Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1 (waste collection delayed for some customers). New Year’s Eve Fireworks at Riverfront Park will start at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31. City of Spokane
- ➤ Starting January 1, anglers 15 and older need a Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement to fish in the Columbia River and select Washington tributaries, with prices at $7.10 for 15-year-olds and resident seniors + $8.75 for others; endorsements are available online, by phone, and from licensed vendors.
