If you like to know where city money is headed, Mayor Lisa Brown just gave you a big read. Her proposed 2027-28 budget totals $2.89 billion and is available to view online. KREM reports it names public safety, housing and economic development as its main priorities while trying to address a $90 million deficit in the general fund.

The city estimates an 11 percent rise in revenue and a 13 percent rise in expenditures, helped by growth in sales and property taxes. Here's what's in it:

  • New: a downtown bike and foot patrol
  • New: an Office of Performance and Innovation
  • Continues support for the Spokane Safe and Healthy Task Force
  • Staffing: no budget-related cuts, the city says
  • Next: City Council, for possible amendments

Brown's budget grows revenue 11% and spending 13%

The airline said the cuts are expected to be permanent, but entire facilities are not closing.

KREM reports the letter lists jobs from senior and director positions to safety managers. KHQ's list also includes call center specialists, fuel operations managers and software engineers. KOMO says the notice fulfills the Washington WARN Act.

  • Notice dated: Oct. 30
  • First separations: on or about Dec. 31
  • Bumping rights: don't apply to affected workers
  • Some employees may return to a former union position
  • Questions: Christin Leise, people operations
